Just curious

Yes I know it has been a while, but it seems I have lost a bit of interest in this. I hope it changes. Anyway does anyone have any pictures, stories or videos of the CN Newmarket Sub from back in the day before it was abandoned in 1996? I only ask because there is not much info on the internet and barley any pictures. If you have any of the above, please let me know as I am very interested.

I have a video cassette (VHS) that I purchased from a vendor at a model railroad show named Video Classics entitled Northlander, or Ontario Northland In Winter. The topic of the film is a ride on one of the last TEE trains, and is shot from Union Station to Huntsville. Some of the shots are from the passenger car, but a lot is from the locomotive. The route they used at that time was up the west side of Simcoe through Barrie.

There is a phone number on the cassette, 416-694-6821.

I have another video as well called The Tail End that is filmed from a caboose on a round trip from McMillan in Toronto to North Bay and back. I believe in that one they went up through Brechin, and back through Barrie.

    Hello Craig,

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. I gave that number a call and sure enough they have the video, so I put an order in and hope to have it within a week or so. It is on DVD instead of VHS btw.

Also I have the Tail end somewhere in my house, just can’t remember where. Also I’m pretty sure that was taken shortly before CN abandoned the line. Do you happen to have any pictures of the Newmarket Sub? if you do, let me know

Hi there. Glad you were able to order the casette. I have tons of train photo’s from the Kingston sub, and the Bala sub, but unfortunately none from the Newmarket sub.

If you call that number again, the fella who runs the company I believe is named P.J. Barnes, and he’s a former engineer. He may have some photo’s, or know where to steer you.

    Good luck Buddy.

So I got the video in, I have to say it was pretty good but I was disappointed that they filmed until Maple Go Station and then skipped all the way to Barrie, I was hoping to see the Newmarket Station but oh well.

Hey Benny, Been a long time, I’ve noticed quite a bit of automated signal tower constuction going on around Bradford and Holland Landing. Do you know if they are preparing for 2 way traffic for Go to go to all day service ?
    Thanks, Don
